I began my legal career as an Assistant Attorney General representing Ohio in trial and appellate work. I have served three different Attorneys General and served as Special Counsel to two of them. I am an A-V Preeminent Peer Review Rated Attorney, rated by my peers at the highest rating in both legal ability and ethical standards. I am a past President of the Dayton Bar Association and a member of the American, Ohio State, and Dayton Bar Associations. I serve as a Mentor as part of the Ohio Supreme Court's mentoring program for young attorneys.

Business Relationships

In a business where owners are related or are personal friends, or have helped grow or manage it, the challenge is to assure that those relationships continue over time to be assets to the business; often that's not the case. In the context of family-owned or closely-held business, failure results from unexpressed expectations and personal comparisons among the parties that negatively impact the long-term success of the business. Business relationships need to be managed with respect and persistent communications. I can help with agreements that avoid disputes, that help you achieve your objectives and that protect the value of your business.

Litigation

In my years of practicing law, I have successfully litigated and mediated a wide variety of cases that have included labor relations issues, business, and labor contract issues, scientific research issues, inheritance issues, medical malpractice, personal injuries, constructive trusts, closely-held, and family business disputes.

Although it happens, it’s unusual if a dispute is about establishing a precedent or as a means of inflicting punishment. Most disputes can be categorized as economic propositions and the most effective way to resolve disputes is through mediation. You can learn more about the details of your opponent's claims or defenses in mediation than you can litigating. I have achieved excellent results in litigation by simultaneously mediating the dispute.
