Your Safety Culture and Safety Program

Before I proceed with the main topic of this article, I’d like to comment briefly on the recent general election and what the results may mean to employers in the area of health and safety. I have the advantage of having been involved with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for more than 40 years. I have seen administrations change from liberal to conservative and back again, but despite changes in political ideology, OSHA has continued to move forward with new standards and enforcement initiatives. Some plans from a former, more liberal administration have been delayed or cancelled, while others have moved forward, and the reverse has also been true. So I do not expect a significant shift to occur at OSHA, either when the president-elect takes office or for some time afterward.
