Stephen A. Watring



As a director with Auman, Mahan & Furry, Steve Watring emphasizes assisting businesses in labor and employment matters. Through sound legal counseling, he concentrates on helping businesses comply with employment laws and thereby avoid discrimination charges, wrongful discharge lawsuits and other employment-related claims. As a result of his experience in discrimination claims, Steve also has developed an active practice in avoidance and defense of housing discrimination claims. A strategic litigator with 35 years of experience, Steve has represented numerous businesses in a wide range of employment and business matters. Based on peer review, he has been awarded the highest rating available from the premier national attorney rating service and has been selected as a Super Lawyer. Steve has been certified as a specialist in labor and employment law by the Ohio State Bar Association.

In addition, Steve has years of experience serving as a private mediator. Through Mediation@Work, Steve helps parties resolve employment and business disputes.

Steve has chaired the Dayton Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Committee. In addition to his membership in the Dayton Bar Association, he is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Miami Valley Human Resource Association, and The Federalist Society. In addition to Ohio courts, he has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and multiple federal district and appellate courts.

Steve has been a frequent speaker on a broad range of employment topics. He is past chair of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Drugs Don’t Work Committee, and a Leadership Dayton Graduate.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law, Steve served on Law Review, and wrote a construction labor law article that has been cited throughout the United States. He is also a cum laude graduate of Wright State University.
